WHEATON, Ill. In one of the largest Hindu spiritual gatherings held in the Midwest this year, more than 4,000 devotees, families, youth, and community leaders from across Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and neighboring states came together to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Chinmaya Mission Worldwide during the spectacular festival, “Vayuputra in the Windy City,” held at the DuPage County Fairgrounds in Wheaton, Illinois.
More than 250 volunteers, working for nearly a year, made the event a success, featuring sacred rituals, inspiring discourses, educational exhibits, youth activities, devotional music, cultural performances, and family-friendly programs.
The event’s unique title, “Vayuputra in the Windy City,” beautifully connected Chicago’s famous nickname as the “Windy City” with Lord Hanuman, revered in Hindu tradition as Vayuputra, the Son of the Wind God, organizers said.
The highlight of the celebration was the presence of Pujya Swami Swaroopananda, Global Head of Chinmaya Mission Worldwide, who delivered the keynote address, speaking of the growing importance of preserving Sanatana Dharma in today’s rapidly changing world.

He encouraged families to strengthen their spiritual foundations by studying the Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads, and other sacred scriptures while passing India’s cultural heritage to future generations, and that true spiritual growth comes through selfless service, disciplined living, and a deeper understanding of one’s inner self.
He announced that the worldwide 75th Anniversary celebrations will continue this October with a major international gathering at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
A documentary on Swami Chinmayananda, the visionary founder of Chinmaya Mission, was screened at the event.
The thousands of devotees participated in a mass Hanuman Chalisa Maha Yajna, chanting together in devotion while priests conducted a sacred Vedic Havan. Multiple yajna kunds were established throughout the venue as families offered prayers for peace, harmony, prosperity, and the welfare of humanity.
The festival also featured devotional music, classical Indian dance performances, children’s presentations, interactive educational exhibits, cultural displays, community service booths, and traditional vegetarian cuisine. Families spent the day exploring exhibits highlighting Hindu philosophy, Indian heritage, and the 75-year journey of Chinmaya Mission.
Today, Chinmaya Mission Chicago serves the community through three major Chicagoland centers—Chinmaya Mission Badri in Willowbrook, Chinmaya Mission Yamunotri in Grayslake, and Chinmaya Mission Gangotri in the City of Chicago. Together, these centers offer year-round educational, devotional, and cultural programs that benefit thousands of families.
