Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], May 24 (ANI): Expressing deep grief and renewed hope for justice in the Twisha Sharma death case, the victim’s sister-in-law, Rashi Oberoi Sharma, on Sunday said the family is determined to continue its fight for justice, adding that Twisha held a deeply emotional place in her life.
“I have known her (Twisha) for a year, and she told me I am like a daughter and she is like a mother to me. We have already lost her, but she will always be with us. Just like she had been bold and strong, we will keep fighting for her till the end. We have always been fighting so that things are conducted in a just manner and she gets the justice she deserves,” she told ANI.
Sharma further said the family remains thankful for the support received and alleged that there were attempts to derail the investigation.
“We are thankful to all of those who are supportive of her. Considering that everyone could see the discrepancies in these alleged matters and the investigations that were conducted so far, and everyone who tried to conspire against the just procedure, we are grateful that it has come out,” she added.
Her remarks came as a team of four senior doctors from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) reached Bhopal to conduct a second post-mortem of Twisha Sharma, following directions from the Madhya Pradesh High Court, with the procedure currently underway.
Twisha’s sister-in-law further said that the family has full confidence in the medical team and expects a fair and transparent procedure.
“We have complete faith in the team constituted from AIIMS Delhi by the High Court that things will now be conducted in a just manner,” she said, adding that the decision on last rites will be taken by the victim’s father and brother.
Twisha’s cousin Ashish Sharma said the family will carry out the last rites after completion of medical procedures, expressing gratitude over the Supreme Court’s intervention.
Twisha’s uncle, Lokesh Sharma, also welcomed the apex court’s suo motu cognisance of the matter, saying the family has renewed hope in justice.
Twisha’s father, Navnidhi Sharma, was present at the AIIMS Bhopal mortuary for formal identification and procedural requirements linked to the second autopsy. He also expressed confidence that the truth would emerge through the fresh autopsy.
The Supreme Court on Saturday registered a suo motu case titled ‘In Re Alleged Institutional Bias and Procedural Discrepancies in the Unnatural Death of a Young Woman at Matrimonial Home’.
A bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant is expected to hear the matter on Monday.
Meanwhile, a local court in Bhopal remanded Twisha’s husband and prime accused Samarth Singh to seven days of police custody from May 23 to May 29 for further interrogation. Singh was arrested in Jabalpur on May 22 after being absconding.
Twisha Sharma, a resident of Noida, married Bhopal resident Samarth Singh in December 2025. Following her death on May 12, her family alleged that she was subjected to mental torture and dowry harassment by her husband and his family, triggering widespread outrage and calls for a fair and detailed probe.
The Madhya Pradesh government has already recommended a CBI investigation into the case, while Twisha’s family continues to demand an impartial probe. (ANI)
