In a memorable celebration of India’s spiritual and cultural heritage, the US Indian Community Foundation (USICF) donated a statue of Swami Vivekananda to the Consulate General of India in Chicago. The statue was formally unveiled June 14, 2026, by the Ambassador of India to the United States, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, in the presence of Consul General in Chicago Somnath Ghosh, community leaders, elected officials, religious representatives, and distinguished members of the Indian-American community.
The special event, jointly hosted by the Consulate General of India, Chicago, and the US Indian Community Foundation, also featured a Meet-and-Greet reception with Ambassador Kwatra. The occasion honored the life, teachings, and enduring legacy of Swami Vivekananda. The USICF’s donation was a tribute one of India’s great spiritual leaders who introduced India’s ancient philosophy to the Western world through his historic address at the World’s Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893. His famous opening words, “Sisters and Brothers of America,” remain a powerful symbol of global unity and mutual respect, organizers said in a press release.
Ambassador Kwatra praised the Indian-American community for preserving and promoting India’s rich cultural heritage while making significant contributions to American society. He emphasized that Swami Vivekananda’s teachings remain highly relevant in today’s world and continue to inspire future generations.

Consul General Ghosh expressed his appreciation to the US Indian Community Foundation for its generous donation. He noted that the statue will serve as a source of inspiration for visitors to the Consulate and stand as a symbol of India’s timeless values and civilizational heritage.
