New Delhi [India], May 28 (ANI): Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Thursday criticised the central government after the latest SSC GD controversy, saying that this is a “systematic destruction of merit.”
Banerjee, in an X post, said that after the CBSE irregularities and NEET-UG 2026 paper leak, the youth have again been pushed into a cycle of anxiety and betrayal with the Staff Selection Commission General Duty (SSC GD) recruitment controversy.
This comes after the SSC GD exam was embroiled in controversy due to last-minute paper cancellations, severe technical glitches, over-allocation of candidates at exam centres, and widespread allegations of paper leaks.
“From NEET paper leaks to CBSE exam irregularities, and now the SSC GD recruitment controversy – India’s youth are being pushed into a cycle of anxiety, uncertainty and BETRAYAL,” he said.
Banerjee added that the students, who spend endless nights preparing for the exams, get mismanagement and overcrowded centres at the end.
“Crores of students spend years preparing, sacrificing sleep, resources, mental peace and family expectations with the hope that hard work will secure their future. But what do they receive in return? Paper leaks. Technical glitches. Mismanagement. Overcrowded centres. Broken systems,” he said.
According to Banerjee, nearly 46 lakh candidates travelled from afar only to be welcomed with system failures, chaos at the centre, and serious security concerns.
“Nearly 46 lakh candidates appearing for SSC GD – many travelling hundreds of kilometres with borrowed money and dreams in their eyes – deserved fairness and dignity. Instead, reports of server failures, chaos at centres and serious security concerns have once again shaken public trust in the examination system,” he said.
“This is not mere ‘mismanagement’. This is the SYSTEMATIC DESTRUCTION OF MERIT. An entire generation is growing up believing that no matter how hard they work, the system can still fail them overnight,” he added.
Banerjee noted that under the BJP’s rule, the examinations are making headlines for scams and irregularities instead of creating opportunities and nation-building.
“Under @BJP4India’s rule, examinations are making headlines for scams and irregularities instead of creating opportunities for nation-building. NEET exposed the cracks. Recruitment exams continue to expose the deep rot within the system. Students are no longer asking for privilege – they are simply demanding a fair chance,” he said. (ANI)
