Over the Fall of 2025, several Indian-origin faculty at the prestigious Brown University in Rhode Island, received prominent awards and recognitions. The awards related to their research, service, scholarship and leadership, according to a January 15, 2026, news release on the Universityโs website brown.edu/news.
At least five Brown faculty members of Indian origin, were recognized during the Fall semester (alphabetical order):

Professor of Engineeringย Pradeep Guduru, whoย was named the recipient of theย B.J. Lazan Awardย from the Society for Experimental Mechanics. Guduru will be presented the award at the societyโs annual conference in June 2026. He was honored โfor pioneering contributions to the mechanics of dynamic failure, electromechanics of batteries and the development of high-speed diagnostics and instrumentation.โ

Professor of Engineeringย Nitin Padtureย got the 2025ย Humboldt Research Awardย from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany in recognition of his outstanding research accomplishments in materials science, particularly emerging photovoltaics.

Kavita Ramanan, a professor of applied mathematics, was namedย president of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, a post she will hold until August 2026. The IMS is an international professional and scholarly society devoted to the development, dissemination and application of statistics and probability.

Associate Professor of political science, international and public affairs ย as well as social and behavioral sciences Prerna Singh, was awarded aย Max Planck-Humboldt Medalย for her research on the development of welfare states in the Global South.ย The prize of 80,000 euros aims to help fund her latest research project on vaccination hesitancy.
