
The 79th Independence Day of India was celebrated in Washington D.C. with a flag-hoisting ceremony on August 15, 2025 at India House. The ceremony was attended by a number of Indians, diaspora members, students and friends of India, a press release from the Embassy said.

Ambassador of India to the United States, Vinay Kwatra, addressed the gathering and highlighted the address to the nation by India’a President on the eve of the independence day Aug. 14.
A cultural program with the participation of Indian diaspora children was part of the program to celebrate the day.


Senior dancers of the Mayor Dance Academy performed a classical Odissi dance. Students of the Gandharva School of Music performed a medley of patriotic songs for the gathering. Winners of a Painting and Essay Competition organized by the Embassy for children of the Indian community were also felicitated during the celebrations.
The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign was commemorated through an exhibition on the history of the tricolor.
