Agartala (Tripura) [India], July 7 (ANI): Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday said that ensuring all kinds of basic services to citizens is one of the goals of the state government.
He said that the Agartala Municipal Corporation is working to ensure various citizen services by developing modern infrastructure in the Agartala Municipal Corporation area.
“The state government does not want to make any compromise in the development of infrastructure and expanding the scope of citizen services with transparency,” he said.
Saha said this while inaugurating the newly constructed ward office of Ward No. 40 of the Municipal Corporation at Baradowali, Agartala, today.
The Chief Minister said that since 2019, there has been a huge change in the Agartala Municipal Corporation area through the implementation of proper development plans.
“In the past, due to government apathy, many water bodies in the Municipal Corporation area were filled up. Road spaces were occupied. This created chaos in sewage management in the Municipal Corporation area. In the last few years, the current state government and the Municipal Corporation have been working for the development of Agartala city by adopting proper plans,” said Saha.
He said that 24 water bodies have been renovated and beautified in the Municipal Corporation area at a cost of Rs. 137 crore.
“In those areas of the Municipal Corporation where there was no provision of drinking water for a long time, drinking water has now been ensured in every household. Township projects have been taken up for the benefit of people living in cities and urban areas. Forty-eight flats have already been provided. Work on the Lighthouse project is underway. A target of providing 79,878 houses has been set at a cost of Rs. 1,292 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. More than 76,000 houses have already been constructed. Another 4,300 houses will be provided through Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0,” said the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister said that various projects are being implemented under the Smart City Mission to develop Agartala city as a modern smart city.
“Not only ensuring citizen services, but the state government is also working on alternative employment opportunities in urban areas. 6,725 self-help groups have been formed through the Tripura Urban Livelihood Mission. The allocation for the TUEP project has been increased. Various assistance is being provided to workers involved in maintaining cleanliness in various urban areas of the state, including Agartala Municipal Corporation,” he added.
Mayor and MLA of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumdar, Agartala Municipal Corporation Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta, Municipal Corporation South Zone Chairman Abhijit Mallick, and Agartala Municipal Corporation Commissioner Saju Wahid A. were present at the event. (ANI)
