New Delhi [India], September 8(ANI): BJP MP Tarun Chugh on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab, accusing it of promoting gang culture, mafia and extortion.
Addressing a press conference in the national capital, Chugh said, “In Punjab, the Bhagwant Mann government, acting at the behest of Arvind Kejriwal, has been continuously promoting gang culture, the mafia, and a culture of extortion across the state.”
“They are being institutionalized, institutionalising criminal activities, mafias, and gangsters, because of which the entire state of Punjab is living in an atmosphere of fear today. For the first time in Punjab, after the formation of this government, organised extortion has started,” he alleged.
Chugh said the consequences are visible across sections, “every industrialist, every trader, every doctor, every hospital administration, every lawyer, every big farmer in Punjab, even anyone purchasing a new vehicle, receives a phone call. Through these calls, extortion money is demanded.”
Alleging a parallel system in the state, he said, “Gangsters are continuously trading with the peace and tranquillity of Punjab. Every person has to pay a parallel goon tax to live, to be safe… There is a parallel economy in Punjab. There is a parallel government system in Punjab. The people are helpless.”
“The people are in a state of fear for their families, their children, their business, their homes. Since February 2022, the atmosphere has become such that the gangsters, the mafia, the people who collect extortion, have become a part of the government of Bhagwant Mann,” he added.
Chugh also displayed a photograph and alleged that a person with criminal background was part of a demonstration outside his house to intimidate BJP.
“I am showing you a photo. This is a demonstration outside my house… The person in whose hand is holding the flag of Aam Aadmi Party… his name is Kamal Bori… I have made a long list of his crimes… The Punjab Police itself believes that he runs a total mafia, runs a gang, collects extortion,” he said.
