
ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. — Consul General of India in Chicago Ambassador Somnath Ghosh formally launched Indian Art and Culture: A Journey Through Time and Tradition, a new book by veteran diplomat, scholar and author Ambassador Dr. Ausaf Sayeed, at an event Aug. 21 at Northwest Suburban College in Rolling Meadows.
The event brought together community leaders, educators, professionals and cultural enthusiasts from across the Chicago area to celebrate Sayeed’s latest literary work, which explores India’s artistic, cultural and historical heritage.
Among those attending were Prof. Sampath Ramesh of Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management; Naperville Councilman Ashfaq Syed; Streamwood Park District Commissioner Raees Yawer; Syed Shanawaz Khan; Chicago community leader Mir Khan; M.T. AliNiazee, president of Northwest Suburban College; and other community members.
Ghosh, the chief guest, praised Sayeed for documenting and promoting India’s cultural heritage and for drawing on his diplomatic experience in presenting the country’s traditions to a wider audience.

“Ambassador Dr. Ausaf Sayeed has brought his deep understanding of India and his distinguished diplomatic experience to this important work,” Ghosh said. “Indian Art and Culture beautifully reflects the richness, diversity and continuity of our civilizational heritage and will help introduce India’s remarkable cultural traditions to readers across generations.”
During the program, Sayeed discussed the inspiration behind the book and his interest in documenting the traditions and artistic expressions that have shaped India over centuries.
“India’s art and culture tell the story of a civilization that has evolved over thousands of years while continuing to inspire the world,” Sayeed said. “This book is an effort to celebrate that remarkable heritage and encourage greater appreciation and understanding of India’s cultural traditions.”
The book takes readers through India’s cultural landscape, highlighting its diverse artistic traditions, history and the continuing influence of its heritage. It reflects Sayeed’s longstanding interest in cultural diplomacy and in introducing Indian history and culture to audiences in India and abroad.
The gathering also highlighted the role of the Indian American community in preserving cultural traditions and passing knowledge of India’s heritage to younger generations.
Organizers thanked attendees and community members for supporting the event, describing it as a celebration of literature, culture, diplomacy and heritage.
Sayeed is a former Indian diplomat whose career included senior assignments representing India overseas. In addition to his diplomatic work, he has written extensively on history, culture, international relations and India’s engagement with different regions of the world.
