Former Secretary of Commerce for President Bill Clinton and White House Chief of Staff for President Barack Obama, William “Bill” Daley announced his endorsement of Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi in his bid for the U.S. Senate, January 12, 2026.
Daley’s support adds to the expanding coalition of Illinois leaders supporting Krishnamoorthi’s campaign. According to press releases from the campaign, the Indian American lawmaker is currently leading the contenders for the Democratic primary scheduled for March 17, 2026.
“Raja Krishnamoorthi has the experience and integrity to be the champion that Illinois needs in the U.S. Senate. He is focused on delivering results that better the lives of families across our state — not empty promises or partisan games,” Daley is quoted saying in the press release.
A businessman and public servant, Daley is a lifelong Chicagoan, apart from being the son of former Mayor Richard J. Daley and the brother of former Mayor Richard M. Daley.
“Secretary Bill Daley has devoted his life to public service and to delivering real results for working families in Illinois and across the country,” said Krishnamoorthi. “His leadership in the Obama White House, the Cabinet, and the private sector reflects a deep commitment to solving problems and making government work for people. I am truly honored to have his support and grateful for his trust in our shared vision for Illinois.”
Daley’s endorsement adds to a growing list of current and former officials, including Lt. Governor Sheila Simon, Congressman Phil Hare (IL-17), Congressman Luis Gutierrez (IL-04), as well as a coalition of trusted Chicago leaders.
“From Chicago to Carbondale and everywhere in between, Illinois leaders in every corner of the state are uniting behind Raja, a proven champion for working families,” Krishnamoorthi’s campaign said.

The campaign recently reported its strongest fundraising quarter yet, secured the first national union endorsement of the primary, launched two new television ads, and has a “commanding lead” in polling.
