
Wheeling, IL – August 9, 2025 — The United Senior Pariwar, Chicago (USPC), brought together 300 members to mark a vibrant triple celebration of India’s Independence Day, Raksha Bandhan, and Janmashtami at the Swaminarayan Mandir in Wheeling, Illinois.
The event began with a warm welcome from Secretary Bhanubhai Vyas, who outlined the agenda for the day. Members, led by Jyotsna Chokshi and Virmatiben Pandya, chanted Prarthna and Hanuman Chalisa, creating a devotional atmosphere. The ceremonial Deep Prajwalan (lamp lighting) was performed by President Ramesh Chokshi, Treasurer Kiritbhai Pandya, Secretary Bhanubhai Vyas, Manjulaben Patel, and Jayanti Oza (News Media Partner). Acharya Shree Rohit Joshi, Vice President of USPC, led shlok chanting.
The program began with tributes to both the American National Anthem and Indian National Anthem, accompanied by the hosting of the two national flags. Following this, Jyotsana Chokshi performed the patriotic song “Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon”, and Shree Prakashbhai Mehta sang a special song for Raksha Bandhan. An Independence Day parade then took place, with members carrying tricolor flags and chanting “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram.”

A special highlight was the distribution of the book Jewels of Gujarat to ten members, donated by Jayanti Oza (News Media Partner). President Ramesh Chokshi conducted a quiz on the Gita and Mahabharata, asking 30 questions and awarding prizes to winners. Patriotic songs were performed by Anilbhai Shah, Girishbhai Desai, and Kiritbhai Madhiwala, adding to the celebratory mood.
On the cultural front, Anjana Desai and Rita Thakkar performed Raksha Bandhan-themed songs, while Pradumanbhai Pathak addressed the gathering, speaking on the significance of Independence Day, Raksha Bandhan, and Janmashtami. August birthdays of members were also celebrated, with each receiving a box of sweets.
The Janmashtami celebration included a symbolic Krishna Janm and the traditional procession from Mathura to Gokul. The procession was sponsored by Mr. & Mrs. Ghanshyambhai Patel, Mr. & Mrs. Ajit Majmudar, and Parulben Dave. Members participated in Krishna Puja and Aarti, concluding the religious segment of the celebration.

Treasurer Kiritbhai Pandya announced the day’s donations, and the event concluded with a delicious meal catered by Swaminarayan Mandir. J.K. Trivedi provided photography and videography services, capturing the day’s memorable moments.
The event not only honored India’s 79th Independence Day but also brought the community together in devotion, patriotism, and cultural pride.
