New York — U.S. Senator Charles Schumer has extended warm greetings to the Indian-American community in New York and across the nation in honor of India’s Independence Day, recognizing their cultural, economic, and civic contributions to the state and the country.
“As U.S. Senator from the great State of New York, I have always been honored to represent a diverse and vibrant Indian-American community,” Schumer said in his message. “The Indian-American community has made outstanding contributions to New York’s community, economy, and culture.”
Highlighting his 2023 visit to India as part of his first Congressional Delegation as Senate Majority Leader, Schumer reflected on experiencing India’s rich history, culture, and traditions firsthand. He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening U.S.–India ties, grounded in both nations’ shared dedication to democracy and prosperity.
“On behalf of all New Yorkers, I am honored to wish Indian-Americans across our state a Happy Independence Day,” Schumer said. “Today, we celebrate the vast culture, diversity, and contributions of Indian-Americans throughout New York. Best wishes for a wonderful holiday.”
India’s Independence Day, celebrated annually on August 15, marks the nation’s freedom from British rule in 1947 and is observed worldwide by the Indian diaspora.
