
Members of the Indian American community led by the Foundation of Indian Americans (“FIA”) – New England gathered at the 911 Memorial at 43 Milk Street in Westborough, Massachusetts on Wednesday evening to honor the lives lost in the tragic events of September 11, 2001. The somber ceremony was organized to remember nearly 3,000 innocent victims, including at least 41 individuals of Indian origin, as well as to pay tribute to the courageous and selfless first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice while saving others. The event brought together Indian American families in greater Boston area and local residents of Westborough.
The 911 Memorial on Milk Street in Westborough has a steel column from the original World Trade Center. Community members paid tribute by laying flowers and observing a moment of silence.
“Terrorist attacks on America on September 11, 2001, was not only a national tragedy for America but also the entire civilized world and all of humanity since the victims represented multiple different nationalities, ethnicities and faiths,” FIA’s President. Abhishek Singh, is quoted saying in the press release.
Indian American community members also observed another moment of silence in memory of Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, and tireless advocate of free speech, who was assassinated on Wednesday, September 10, 2025. “There is no room for violence in a democracy which protects free speech and allows difference of opinions,” said FIA’s Vice President Sanjay Gokhale.
Prayers were offered and a reading of the “Shanti Path” was carried out in memory of the victims of 9/11 and Kirk and his young family.
