Chicago, IL — A new women’s group was launched in Chicago under the leadership of Mina Purohit, a TV host, founder & director of IndiaTV-USA, and accomplished Gujarati film producer.
The group, known as Golden Girls of Chicago was officially launched to focus on women’s empowerment and community service, by bringing together accomplished women who are committed to uplifting others and spreading joy.
“Spreading happiness and being helpful to each other,” is the stated mission which saw nearly 50 successful women coming together at the initiation.

“We recognize the strength of women, and we deeply cherish both America and our beloved Motherland, India,” Purohit said. “This platform is not just about enjoying life together but also about creating meaningful impact—especially for women in need.”
Launched in May, a month synonymous with Mother’s Day, the timing of this group’s debut holds profound significance for organizers.
In a tribute to the elderly mothers in India, the Golden Girls of Chicago named its initiative – “MAA TUZE SALAM” – A Salute to Motherhood. Through this initiative, the group expects to make voluntary annual contributions to support senior, single, and underprivileged mothers in India who may be struggling to meet basic needs. “We do not call this charity or donation,” Purohit said, “We see it as our heartfelt duty—an offering of respect to the mothers of our homeland.”
In addition to their philanthropic work, the group plans to hold monthly gatherings to celebrate American and Indian cultural festivals—”creating joyful moments while strengthening bonds and advancing their mission of empowerment.” The organization is welcoming women to join it in order to make a difference locally and globally.
