August 22, 2025 – ZEE5 Global is set to premiere its first Malayalam original series, Kammattam, on September 5, coinciding with the Onam festival. Directed by Shan Thulasidharan and produced by 23 Feet Productions, the six-episode crime thriller is inspired by a real-life incident in Thrissur that unsettled Kerala. The series features actor Sudev Nair in the lead role, alongside Jins, Jeo Baby, Ajay Vaasudev, Akhil Kavalayoor, Arun Sol, Sreerekha, and Jordy Poonjaa.
The trailer for Kammattam was launched by Malayalam actor Tovino Thomas, who extended his support to the project.
The story begins with the suspicious death of planter Samuel Umman, initially believed to be a road accident. Circle Inspector Antonio George suspects foul play after a necklace disappears from the scene. His investigation soon leads to Shaji, an auto driver with a criminal background, who is later found dead in a quarry. A mysterious two-wheeler discovered at a construction site points towards Francis, a quiet plantation worker, unraveling a web of deceit, silence, and buried secrets.
Actor Sudev Nair described the role as one of the most demanding of his career, requiring “emotional depth and honesty in portraying silences, fears, and contradictions of human behavior.” Director Shan Thulasidharan said the project was about “peeling back the layers of silence, betrayal, and morality that lie beneath a chilling real-life incident,” and emphasized his hope that audiences would see the cultural and human truths reflected in the story.
Kammattam will premiere worldwide on September 5, 2025, exclusively on ZEE5 Global.
