Once again, the Brahmin Society of New York has planned a Dandiya Night this Navratri. Set to take place on Friday, September 19, 2025 at Mitchell Athletic Complex in Uniondale, NY, which will hold more than two thousand people, BSNY expects this year’s event to be one of the largest organized Dandiya events in New York.
The BSNY Navratri night will offer complete entertainment, with delicious food at the food stalls, clothing and jewelry shopping, competitions for best performances and best attire, and more. The program which is open to all will last between four and five hours.
Artists are carefully selected by the Navratri committee based on their talent, experience, popularity, and ability to engage the audience.
“This year, we are thrilled to bring Dhruvit Shah, renowned for his voice, style, and interactive performances that make the event fun and engaging for everyone,” said Ruta Dave, a senior member of the Navratri Committee.
BSNY has been bringing local talent to the fore. “We believe in encouraging our Indian talent in the US. The artists whom we select are US based. Our event brings them exposure, and many go on to become well-known,” said Dave.
The large participant turnover consists of mixed groups of all ages, including children, teens, adults and seniors. True to the spirit of Dandiya nights of Navratri, a lot of participants come in traditional Indian attire, women in chaniya choli and men in kurta-pajama or similar outfits, Dave informed.
Word about the program is spread in various ways, through emails, through WhatsApp and other social media. Tickets for the event are sold online and help cover venue rental, artist fees, other event logistics, with additional support from sponsorships and donations, according to Dave.
The preparation for the event goes on for almost a year, Dave said. “We start looking for a bigger space for next year as soon as this year’s event is over”. She said finalizing the venue depends on its size, its accessibility, and its charges. There are emails going back and forth for a long time discussing the charges and timings and restrictions etc. “We have to be after it,” Dave said.
The Navratri Committee includes Dave, Dharini Trivedi, Rajesh Pandya, Kalpita Parikh and Poonam Shah. The current committee has been in office for the past four years. The members know the process and the work and are committed to deliver, Dave said.
The planning process may change once BSNY has its own space. “We have been planning for a long time to have our own space, but it has not yet come about,” Dave said. Under the circumstances, it is easier and cost-and-time-effective to rent a space for events, Dave said. That reduces a lot of administrative and logistic worries and helps the Navratri Committee to concentrate on having a successful program, she said.
BSNY’s Navratri events have had great success in the past, and BSNY is looking to make this year’s event even more entertaining and enjoyable, Dave said.
