Retired Colorado Springs physician and former Republican state legislator Dr. Janak Joshi, announced his candidacy for the United States Senate for which elections will be held in November 2026.
If chosen by his party in the primaries, Joshi will be facing off against former Governor of Colorado and current US Senate incumbent John Hickenlooper, a Democrat, who was elected to the upper house in 2021.
According to news reports (coloradopolitics.com, cpr.org), Dr. Joshi filed his candidacy with the Federal Election Commission Monday, July 7, 2025. The fec.gov website currently has his candidacy listed, but no fundraising details are available for this campaign.
On his US Senate campaign website, janakjoshiforcolorado, the Indian American doctor contends Hickenlooper does not have the common sense that Coloradans have, and that the Democrat is leading America down the path of open boarders, no rule of law, dangerous communities, reckless spending, high taxes, etc.
“I’ve signed the front of a paycheck, employed dozens, created jobs, saved lives, and fought for our common sense ideals that make Coloradans have the opportunity to find what I found when I legally came to America – the American Dream,” Joshi declares.
Joshi has been quoted saying, “In Washington and Denver, Democrats and supposed “conservative” Republicans are pushing laws and regulations that increase our debt, stifle job creation, and raise taxes. The worst of it all: our traditional family values are under attack. We are already seeing the trickle-down effects of bad policymaking and large government on hard-working families and small businesses. The private sector is the backbone of a sound economy, but it is only in the private sector that jobs have been lost. We are all paying the price for these irresponsible policies.”
Dr. Joshi has described himself as “100% Pro-Life” on his 2024 campaign website when he ran for the U.S. House of Representatives from the 8th District.
In his August 4, 2025 press release, Dr. Joshi points out –
“In the state legislature, I fought toe-to-toe against his (Hickenlooper’s) radical ideals and drew a line in the sand between him and the constituents that sent me to Denver.”
Dr. Joshi accuses Sen. Hickenlooper for being “on a warpath to destroy the very fabric that makes America that land of opportunity.”
He emphasizes his conservative bent. “I was a thorn in Hickenlooper’s side – I never voted for a tax, fee, or spending increase. I never voted for his wasteful pet projects thrown onto the shoulders of the Colorado taxpayer. It’s time to send Hickenlooper packing – and I’m the candidate to get the job done.”

Dr. Joshi has served as a Colorado Springs physician for 30 years and served in the Colorado state legislature for three terms.
He is credited with opening a medical clinic and dialysis centers, employing as many as 50 Coloradans. Dr. Joshi has served on the Board of Directors for Crime Stoppers and volunteered with non-profits and community clinics, according to his profile on the campaign website.
“Throughout his 46 years in Colorado, Dr. Joshi has created good-paying jobs, stood up for law and order, defended our conservative values, and fought back against the woke liberal agenda,” his campaign website for the US Senate race says.
