Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], May 23 (ANI): Initial police investigations into the alleged suicide of 38-year-old Ranchi restaurateur Abhimanyu Bhatia point towards severe financial distress, police said.
According to Ranchi City Superintendent of Police Paras Rana, Bhatia’s family told investigators that he had been grappling with financial troubles which had caused him significant mental agony.
Bhatia was found dead at one of his establishments in the Lalpur area on Thursday in an apparent case of suicide, officials said.
The victim, identified as Abhimanyu Bhatia, also known as Luv, allegedly consumed a poisonous substance. His body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
“Regarding this suspected case of suicide, an Unnatural Death (UD) case has been registered at the Lalpur Police Station, and the police are investigating the cause of death along with other contributing factors. Prima facie, according to the family’s statement, he was facing certain financial difficulties and was under significant distress due to these troubles. The police are continuing a thorough investigation into the matter at their own level,” SP Rana told ANI.
“The initial report suggests that Abhimanyu Bhatia–also known as ‘Luv’–consumed aluminium phosphide (commonly referred to as ‘Celphos’ or ‘Sulfas’) yesterday around 1:30 PM while at one of his restaurants. The establishment is located in the Lalpur police station area. After consuming the substance, he admitted to people in his immediate vicinity that he had swallowed a pill.
