New Delhi [India], April 3 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has launched a decisive and comprehensive campaign against air pollution in the national capital.
While announcing this initiative, the Chief Minister stated that, following the historic Green Budget of 2026-27, the Delhi Government has implemented the Air Pollution Mitigation Action Plan – 2026.
This plan represents a concrete step towards translating the vision of clean, green, and sustainable urban development into reality.
In this regard, the Chief Minister convened a review meeting today, attended by senior officials from all government departments, including cabinet ministers.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister also said that all 13 districts will have a ‘Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ for the first time.
“For every animal lover in Delhi, this is for you. For the first time, all 13 districts will have a Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals,” she said in a press release.
CM Gupta further added that veterinary hospitals that were lying in a dilapidated condition are now being rebuilt with doctors, medicines, and proper systems.
“And for the first time, veterinary hospitals that were lying in a dilapidated condition are now being rebuilt with doctors, medicines, and proper systems, while some continue to ignore facts and mislead people for political gain,” she added.
In a significant administrative move to strengthen animal welfare at the grassroots level, the Delhi government has decided to constitute Societies for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCAs) in all 13 revenue districts of the capital.
Each committee will be headed by the respective District Magistrate (DM).
According to an official statement, CM Gupta said the decision follows the recent reorganisation of revenue districts and aims to ensure more effective implementation of animal protection laws at the district level. These SPCAs will function under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and will include experts and members associated with animal welfare.
At the state level, the Animal Welfare Board will serve as the apex body overseeing the entire framework. It will monitor the implementation of laws and provide technical and financial support to district SPCAs to significantly enhance their capacity, according to the statement from the Chief Minister’s office.
The Chief Minister also clarified that with the new system in place, the separately functioning Delhi Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA) will be dissolved. The move is expected to streamline the structure, making it more coherent and efficient. (ANI)
